Who we are

Horticulturalists With Tractors

Broadlands Contracting is a locally owned rural property maintenance business based in Wollongong. We work with landholders, lifestyle block owners, strata schemes, developers and businesses across the Illawarra, Shoalhaven and Southern Highlands, keeping paddocks slashed, lawns mowed, weeds under control and trees in shape.

The business started with residential mowing in Wollongong, Dapto and Shellharbour and grew into acreage and paddock work as clients asked for it. We built it around mulching decks rather than conventional slashers because the result is better for the ground — the grass is spread evenly and breaks down into the soil instead of lying in rows — and around a tractor and mulcher combination that pulls lantana from the root rather than grinding it off.

We are qualified horticulturalists with more than ten years of experience, which matters more than it sounds. It is the difference between a contractor who mows around a dying hedge and one who tells you why it is dying, and between spraying a paddock blind and treating the weed that is actually there.

What You Get From a Small Local Team

  • Fully insured, with a certificate of currency available on request
  • Free quotes with a fixed price, not an open-ended hourly rate
  • Mulching decks and tractors set up for the steep country this region is known for
  • Qualified horticulturalists who understand pasture, weeds, trees and turf
  • Local knowledge of the slopes, soils and seasons from Wollongong to Bowral

What we stand for

Three Things We Will Not Compromise

Do it once, properly

A cheap slash that leaves windrows, or a weed job that only takes the tops off, is not cheap. We would rather quote the method that actually solves the problem and explain why, even when it is not the lowest number you will be given.

Straight answers

If a paddock is too steep to work safely we will say so. If a weed will need a follow-up spray we will tell you up front. You get the honest version, including when it costs us the work.

Leave it better than we found it

Cut material goes back into the soil, weeds come out root and all, and there is nothing left behind for you to clean up. How the property looks when we drive out is the part that matters.

How we work

Four Steps and Your Property Is Sorted

The same process on a two-acre house block as on a whole grazing property or an estate.

  1. Free quote

We come out, walk the property with you and look at the actual growth and terrain. You get a fixed price with no obligation and no pressure to commit on the day.

  2. Agree the scope

We settle exactly what is being done and how often — cut heights, areas, trees to keep, weeds to target, and a schedule if you want one.

  3. The work gets done

We bring the machine that suits the ground and complete the job to the standard we agreed, working around your stock, access and other trades where needed.

  4. Check it before we leave

We go over the finished work before we pull out so anything that needs adjusting gets sorted while the gear is still on site.

Why the contractor matters

The Wrong Crew Costs You Twice

Choosing a slashing or mowing contractor on price alone tends to leave you with:

  • Windrows from a conventional slasher smothering the pasture for months
  • Lantana and blackberry reshooting within a season because only the tops were cut
  • Hedges and trees lopped badly and left to decay or fail in the next storm
  • Steep sections skipped, and a part-finished job you are still paying for

Good Questions — Here's What to Know

How long has Broadlands Contracting been operating?

We are a locally owned and operated business working out of Wollongong, with more than ten years of experience in horticulture and property maintenance across the Illawarra, Shoalhaven and Southern Highlands. Give us a call and we are happy to talk through recent jobs similar to yours.

Do you subcontract the work out?

No. The team that quotes your job is the team that does it. On larger jobs we may bring in extra equipment, but the work stays under our control from start to finish.

What equipment do you run?

Tractors with mulching decks for slashing, a tractor and mulcher combination for pulling woody weeds, commercial out-front mowers for acreage and estates, a ute-mounted spray unit, and the chainsaws and hedging gear for tree work. Running the range means we can recommend what suits your ground rather than the one machine we happen to own.

Do you work for commercial clients as well as homeowners?

Yes. Alongside rural and acreage work we maintain strata common property, estate open space, vacant lots and commercial grounds for developers, strata managers, agents and businesses. There is a dedicated page covering how commercial work runs.
